"I'm as calm as a fruit stand in New York, and maybe as strange."
-Ryan Adams "Heartbreaker"

So, I got fired from my waiter job.  Apparently, I wasn't the only one.  The manager was just cleaning house, firing another manager in the process.  Now, with about two more weeks of summer left, I do a lot of this:

That's right.  I've decided that I do society an even greater service as a doggie pillow.

In other news, Cheryl passed the big state/national real estate test, which, apparently is very difficult.  So if anyone is thinking about buying/selling a house in the DFW area, let her know.

You could also go the Ryan Adams route and cut three albums this year which contain one good album's worth of material and a bunch of stuff that should go on a B-sides collection someday.

I wouldn't take the list seriously if Chris Martin were on it. He's a decent songwriter, but great is a stretch.

However, I also won't take the list seriously if Jeff Tweedy isn't on it.

And Illinois is a fantastic album. You should also check out Danielson's Ships. Sufjan got his start collaborating with them.

RYC: Finally, somebody else who recognizes just how perfect "Suitcase" is. I knew I liked you. Another overlooked gem on Ohio is "Hometown Boy," which they buried all the way at track 19. The first time I saw them live, they opened with it.

When I saw them last week, they opened with a very sultry version of "Faithfully Dangerous" from Good Dog Bad Dog. In the three OtR concerts I've been to, Linford has never touched a guitar--but then, they took Matt Slocum with them on the Ohio tour, and Drunkard's Prayer hardly uses any guitars anyway. I have gotten to appreciate him as a masterful piano player, though.
